The objective of the Safety Manual is to provide coaches and managers with instruction and reference on proper safety techniques and procedures for Glendora American Little League and was issued to each manager. Each coach and manager is required to read, understand, follow and enforce the provisions of the Safety Manual. The Safety Manual shall be in the possession of at least one on-field coach or manager during all practices and games.
· Responsibility for safety procedures belong to every adult member of Glendora American Little League.
· Each Player, manager, designated coach, umpire, team parents shall use proper reasoning and care to prevent injury to him/herself and to others.
· Only league-approved managers and or coaches are allowed to practice teams and supervise batting cages.
· Play areas will be inspected before games and practices for holes, damage, stones, glass and other foreign objects.
· Team equipment should be stored within the team dugout or behind screens, and not within the area defined by the umpires as “in play”.
· Only players, managers, coaches, approved parents and umpires are permitted on the playing field or in the dugout during games and practice sessions.
· Foul balls batted out of playing area will be returned to the manager, coach or scoring booth. Not thrown over the fence during a game.
· Equipment should be inspected regularly for the condition of the equipment as well as for proper fit.
· Parents of players who wear glasses should be encouraged to provide “safety glasses” for their children.
· All male players will wear athletic supporters or cups during games. Catchers must wear a cup. Managers should encourage that cups be worn at practices also.
· Catchers must wear a catcher’s mitt (not a first baseman’s mitt or fielder’s glove).
· Catchers may not catch, whether warming up a pitcher, in practices, or games without wearing full catcher’s gear and an athletic cup as described above.
· No pets are permitted on the premises at any time. This includes dogs, cats, horses etc.
· No metal spikes or cleats are permitted.
· No medication will be taken at the facility unless administered directly by the child’s parent.
· No running in the bleachers.
· No alcohol or drugs allowed on the premises at any time.
· No one is allowed on the complex with open wounds at any time. Wounds should be treated and properly bandaged.
· The manager is responsible for the teams conduct and safety.
· The manager and each coach shall be governed and shall abide by the Glendora American Little League Code of Conduct (attached).
· If a manger is not available, a coach shall be assigned by the manager to fulfill the safety responsibilities of the manager.
· The manager shall attend the mandatory first-aid and safety training session on TBD In the event a manger cannot attend this session a coach must attend and shall then instruct the manager on the contents of this session.
· The Manager should conduct a team meeting that includes the subject of safety. In this meeting, the manager shall become aware of every child’s illness or condition that may affect their safety or further injury. The manager shall factor such illness or condition during practice or a game.
· The manger shall notify a parent if a child is injured or ill during practice or a game. Inform the parents that they are responsible for the health and well being of their children in regards to participation. Nevertheless, ensure players are fit to practice or play.
· When an injury occurs, the manager shall report the incident on the Incident/Injury Tracking Report and shall submit this completed report within forty-eight hours of the incident to the League’s Safety Director.
· Each manager and coach shall sign and abide by the GALL Code of Conduct.
· Each manager and coach shall be subject to live scan fingerprinting through the Glendora Police Department and shall be required to an ID badge at all practices and games.
· The manager shall teach sound, safe and fundamental baseball, including sliding before the season starts.
· Respect the health and future playing ability of each player, especially pitchers. Do no allow excess pitch counts. Little League guidelines are sixty pitched per outing.
· Children shall NOT be encouraged to play through pain. Pain is a warning sign of injury. Ignoring it can lead to greater injury.
· Responsibility for safety also resided with every adult.
· A cell phone or telephone access should be available for all practices and games.
· Coaches and managers shall be trained in first-aid concepts and techniques.
· First-aid kits are issued to each team and shall be available at each practice and game. Contents shall be replenished immediately.
· No practices or games shall be held when weather or field conditions do not warrant, including inadequate lighting.
